Midwest Electric Products was founded in 1945 by Jack Habinger. Jack started the business manufacturing transformers and remote control products. As the business grew, Midwest Electric Products became known as the "Duck" brand and had a reputation for being built to last. Over the years, the business grew and became recognized as an industry leader in manufacturing high quality outdoor weatherproof electrical equipment including temporary power units, power inlets and outlets, service entrance equipment for new home construction, meter sockets and our innovative A/C disconnects with built-in GFCI receptacles.

In 1975, Midwest Electric Products was acquired as a wholly owned subsidiary of the General Electric Company. The Midwest team remained in place and the business gained the strength and breadth of GE’s financial and technical resources. The business continued to grow as we developed our network of independent sales representatives, distributors, and customers.

In July 2018, ABB purchased the GE Industrial Solutions business that included Midwest Electric products. Once again the team and branding has remained in place during the integration.
